Capacity building of health providers

During 2015-2017, DKT Indonesia regularly conducts CTU training for private midwives with legal certification from JNPK (Clinical Reproductive Health Training Network), which in 2017, a total of 1,100 midwives in 9 cities were received the CTU training. During the same year, a training of trainer (ToT) for post-partum IUD inserter was held in 5 provinces which resulted a total of 150 trainers of private midwives.

Conducting the contraceptive TMA

JSI through MyChoice program supported BKKBN in conducting contraceptive TMA. The assessment used two methodologies : 1) analyzing demographic data document and compared it with the use and services of BKKBN’s contraceptives; and 2) assessment from private pharmatical industry based on their logistic data to validate and complement the data used in other methodologies, as well as to understand the contraceptive availability, access, and clients’ preference on contraceptives products. This study aimed to support the government in decision making related to budget allocation for supply chain.

FP service provision

As one of the largest private providers, DKT Indonesia provides a range of contraceptives, available in private healthcare facilities to accomodate diverse range of preferences on contraceptives (aside from the ones supplied by BKKBN). There are 4 types of contraceptive pills (combination, combination + Fe, lactation, and post-emergency pills); 2 types of injection (1 month and 3 months cycle), 6 types of IUD (CTU 380, IUD safe load, IUD sleek, Silverline 200, Silverline 380, Post-partum IUD inserter, and IUD TCU).

Established a special humanity team at PKBI national and its branches in sub-national level,

PKBI’s program related to humanitarian response focuses on reproductive health and refer to the PPAM standard by Ministry of Health. For this initiative, PKBI also established a special humanity team at PKBI national and its branches in sub-national level, with the members consists of trained PKBI staffs and volunteers. To date, the number of FP services covered by PKBI in crisis and disaster area are 3,903 clients in total.

FP service provision

PKBI owns a number of clinics that provide FP services in 31 cities and 17 provinces, in which the services include contraceptive and abortion services. During 2017-2019, a total of 45,539 clients accessed contraceptive services and a total of 10,978 clients required the abortion servies, with the number of clients who received the abortion services were 58% from the total inquiries. There are currently 2 (two) PKBI clinics that are registered on BPJS (UHC) scheme.

Optimize the role of primary healthcare level (FKTP) in the era of BPJS/UHC

Starting on 2017/2018, ThinkWell with the support from Gates Foundation has supported the Government of Indonesia (through Ministry of Health) by developing Strategic Purchasing for Primary Health Care (SP4PHC), focusing on maternal, neonatal, and family planning issues. The project strategy aims to optimize the role of primary healthcare level (FKTP) in the era of BPJS/UHC by improving the quality of services and cares provided by private midwives.

Advocating the discriminative Criminal Code Law (KUHP) related to abortion

Between 2017-2019, PKBI has actively involved in advocating the discriminative Criminal Code Law (KUHP) related to abortion, which was in discord with Article 75th in Regulations no 36 year 2009. The 2009 regulation allows abortion in consideration for medical emergencies and sexual harrassment victims which will not be accomodated longer in the new KUHP.
