The petition appealed the validity of the section of marriage act, 1971 which provides that; 1. No person shall marry who, being male has not attained the apparent age of eighteen (18) years, or being female, has not attained the apparent age of fifteen (15) years. Further to over two (2) years court proceeding, the court ruled in favor of complainants. The Government was therefore provided with a one year period to review the law accordingly by extending the marriage age to 18 years. However, the Government has filed an appeal against the ruling of the high court which is now at the proceeding stages. |
